With a little over 3 months until we planned to head off we already had most of our gear sorted and we were itching to get some miles under our belts. A long weekend in June offered just that.
Saturday morning we loaded up the bikes with everything we planned to take to South America regardless of whether we needed it or not and headed east along the route we were to take in October riding into York for a quick stop just as the rain eased off. York is a great little town with a couple of well serviced pubs and is generally over run with bikers on the weekends. Next stop, Hyden a few hundred K's east of Perth and home to the extraordinary wave rock...10 minutes there is all you'll need but plenty of good camping spots in the bush.

If you want to experience the very best of the Wheatbelt then autumn is definately a great time to do it. The ride from Kondinin south west to Dwellingup through Kulin, Wickepin, Narrogin and Williams was as good as it gets and the cops dont even mind if you dont have a licence...just remember that dont expect to get any fuel in Wickepin too easily. Just ask at the pub and they will soon sort you out if you happen to run out of fuel...we had slight false expectations of the range we would get with our bikes...

Dwellingup is always beautiful and if you manage to find a quiet spot it is just idyllic. One night there is just not enough but it is only an hour and a half from Perth so it will definitely be a regular destination, but we needed to head back to the office. So we rolled back into the burbs monday arvo after covering just over 950k's and very happy with how the bikes had handled being fully loaded up and very glad we had organised those sheepskin seat covers!.
